Also known as the Shanghai Ranking, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was firstly released in 2003 by the Center for World-Class Universities (CWCU) of the Graduate School of Education da Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, and is updated on an annual basis.
